YARNing to SALE 2 the HEART of ART...

I COULD'VE BOUGHT A COUPLE MORE...

BUT, I would have gone WAY *over* "BUDGET"!! -- And then, there's that *LACK* of WALL-SPACE Issue...

Anyhoo, BEFORE We had wandered on over to that ESTATE-SALE Yesterday, We made a QUICKIE-STOP over to The SALLY-ANN. -- I wanted to CHECK-OUT the AUCTION LISTING. Several NEW-ITEMS had arrived Last Week, but I *couldn't* get a GOOD-Look at THEM, *Then*! - We weren't going to the AUCTION, however, I did want to SEE "WHAT"
I would have "Missed"!

AS IN, a FEW rather NICE "NAUTICAL" PAINTINGS! - Though, still a tad too Pricey...
-- We MOVED ON...

AFTER the ESTATE-SALE - and, on the WAY to TRAINYARDS - We stopped-by for a Short-Bit at Our FRIEND, BOB-THE-BUYER and His FAMILY at Their semi-Monthly CURBSIDE-SALE.

BOB buys and sells LOTS of ANTIQUE & ESTATE "TRINKETS" & CURIOS...

I'm thinking that He was likely a PAWN-BROKER in a "PREVIOUS"-LIFE
-- As I, was likely a CURATOR in at least TWO!!

He also, Posts TERRIFIC SALE-"SIGNS"!! -- NEON-GREEN, *Every* BLOCK - stating how Many Blocks "to go" in CLEAR READABLE-While-You-Drive-By-SCRIPT!

ANYWAY... He had a Few PAINTINGS that Caught My EYE... However, I just settled on the "ABOVE" 8x10-Inch ONE for $5. -- [Which I Suspect, might have been BELOW His *COSTS*?!]

He really Likes Us, and is always Offering Us STUFF *AT-"COST"*!
- A "Courtesy" that I try *not* to "abuse"...

So. I couldn't Find a "Date" on the PIECE, but from the Condition of the FRAMING and CANVAS-BACKING,
I think *over* 30-Years would be a "SAFE-BET"..?

-- Actually, at some point That FRAME *will* be getting TRASHED!

We only "Pilgrimaged" at MICHAEL'S for about an Hour... I just got - [SEE BELOW] - ONE BALL of PURPLE ROVING... Afterward, We headed to the ST.LAURENT MALL - I had a few Errands to do There...

Like, *finally* getting around to "Cashing-IN" My HBC-Points! -- Needless to say, I did a bit of "SHOPPING" LATER... BUT, *NOT* to Worry! - I *still* have MONEY "Left" on that HUDSON'S BAY COMPANY *GIFT CARD*!!

As We were heading to a CHECKOUT-COUNTER, We passed a "DISCOUNT-TABLE" of DISHWARE...

These TWO 4-INCH HEART-DISHES were just sitting there... Looking LONELY... I checked the STICKER. The PRICE was "Right". AND, THEY *were* from PORTUGAL... I really DIDN'T "NEED" THEM!

I walked away about 20-Feet... oh! what-the-hell! -- I SPUN *around* BACK and Snatched THEM UP! - After all, it was *just* the TWO of THEM... About to end up being for "FREE"!

-- HOW could I, Say "NO"?!

NEXT... We headed to a *Certain* ART-"SHOPPE", that shall remain Nameless! AS, Their "SALES"-PRICES really AREN'T *so* much!!

Their YARN was "20%-OFF"... Which, was still about 4% *ABOVE* MICHAEL'S -
[Who really *aren't* Noted for Their LOW "REGULAR"-PRICES, either.
Honestly, other than the FANTASTIC-STAFF and YARN-INVENTORY,
IT's Their SALES and COUPONS that keeps Me coming back!]
 - *REGULAR*-PRICE!?!

However, THEY also have a Couple of COLOURS that I haven't seen at MICHAEL'S... yet...

So, seeing as I had been getting BARGAINS and FREEBIES all Day, I decide to *SPLURGE* on These TWO BALLS of YELLOW!!

I think it was Those HEARTS that MADE Me *DO* IT!!

We FINISHED the Day with GROCERY-GETTING...

MEANWHILE, *Nothing* of NOTE for Today! -- Just the USUAL "SUNDAY-CHORES"...

Made it BACK to "HARBOUR" in the *Nick* of Time!!

WE'VE BEEN *WAITING* FOR THE RAIN! - If only, to Melt-off the HUMIDITY! Luckily, the SKIES were SEMI-Overcast and far LESS *SCORCHING* than Yesterday!

Another *LATE* Start... However, *most* of the Day's YARD-"SALE"-ing was in OUR Neighbourhood! And, the NEXT One over to the WEST. -- Although, We did pop over to BEACON HILL for a Quickie-LOOKSEE afterward.

Anyhoo... My BEST "CATCH"-of-the-Day was THIS 18x24-inch PAINTING for $5. by "P. DYBLE"..?

The Largest Addition to Date to My "$5. and UNDER"-ORIGINAL-ART-COLLECTION!

-- BTW, I absolutely HATE the FRAME! That will definitely get *tossed*! - Unless of course, I find Time - *some* Day - to "Creatively" RE-do IT..? I've yet to really Check-Out ITS "Quality" and Condition.

Meanwhile, in Keeping with Today's apparent Purchasing-"THEME", I also picked up THESE TWO CERAMIC FISH DISHES...

The FIRST, 11-Inches, Made in ITALY -- for 50-Cents... I Found ITS SIMPLISTIC-"Construction" to be INTRIGUING.

As I did the GLAZING on THIS ONE-DOLLAR 16-Inch DISH...

*ONE* of these Days, I'm probably going to HAVE TO *LEARN* "HOW" to Properly COOK *WHOLE*-FISH!! -- I certainly have ENOUGH "SERVING"-WARE for a FISH-FRY!!

oh. And, I also got a Bunch of THESE 9-Inch TIN BOXES for 25-Cents Each... FOUR BLACK Ones and THREE in BROWN. -- Now, I just have to Decide on *what* STUFF to put IN Them!

whatever...

Later on, GROCERY-GETTING was had. Along, with a Visit to MICHAEL'S... It's been a Few Weeks since MOTHER has been There. And, I was *hoping* that the NEW YARN-"TURN-OVER" Shipments would be *IN*..? -- NO Luck... Perhaps by TUESDAY..?? - I'm *eager* to get a "PRE-View"!

RAIN-CLOUDS were gathering CLOSE-by when We *eventually* GOT HOME... About 20-Minutes AFTER I unloaded THE CAR, the HUMIDITY-*SLICING*-DOWNPOUR finally Happened!! - Accented, with a just a touch of THUNDER...

Southerly SHOP-edition Schedule Sailing

WHICH DO YOU *SUPPOSE*, THAT I SPENT THE *MOST* TIME "DOING", TODAY..??

  • Getting TO and/or WAITING *AT* BUS-STOPS?
  • Actual TRAVEL aboard Said-Alluded-To-Vehicles?
  • "SHOPPING"!!?

[ANSWER -- ALL-OF-THE-ABOVE!]

And *THIS*, was the PURPOSE behind My
SIX-plus-HOURS of Travails...

WHEN I spotted This FABRIC in the Recently-Received 2013 IKEA CATALOGUE...

I **WANTED** IT!!

oh. And the "45% COTTON - 55% LINEN" *part* DIDN'T Hurt, either!!

-- Although, a slightly LOWER-Price would have been even *better*! Seeing as I *DID* Buy FIVE-METERS!!

I don't think I've EVER Bought THAT much of *any* "ONE" FABRIC, let alone, for that PRICE! Especially, since I *haven't* SEWN ANYthing in **DECADES**!!

BUT, I thought that IT would be GREAT to USE as a DUVET-COVER..? OR, as DRAPES
- along with a Lining - as IT is THINNER than I had Expected. Maybe, I can toss in a Couple of PILLOW-COVERS, too?

Meanwhile, I couldn't just Waste all of that
"TRANSIT"-TIME without Purchasing SOMETHING
"ELSE"!

-- Hence...

THESE COLOURFULLY CUTE ICE-CUBE TRAYS!!

Personally, I'm Thinking "JELL-O" Mold USE...

As I Spied This HORSE-SHAPED BAKING-PAN , I Thought of CADET-JUNIOR...

Of course, the DILEMA with THAT, is the tiny "Detail" regarding CPL.TAT-MOM's rumoured LACK of BAKING and/or CULINARY SKILLS..?

NOT quite MY "forte", either! - However, with such a CUTE PONY-PAN, "in a pinch" I'm SURE that I could Throw "SOMETHING" together...

Like.... JELL-O..??

ANYHOO... IT turned into a Lonngggg Day. And, with "CASINO"-Weather that was SO Predictably UP & DOWN! -- I got Caught in one SHINY-SUN-SHOWER as I got off BUS #3. -- IT passed...

Just in Time for Me to grab the Next BUS *HOME*, with 5-Minutes to SPARE on My TRANSFER!

My FEET need to be HORIZONTAL *NOW*!!

TRANSLATION: **FREE** plus a 20-Cent-Each-CARRYING-OFF-Charge!

And BTW, We're NOT Talking silly little Tchotchke-Trinkets here. NO. They were heavy Books, and Large Items.

BEACON HILL was Where We spotted THAT little "Happy-Dance" bit of Signage at a TRIO of YARD-SALES.

-- I *almost* FELT a Pang of "GUILT" for Paying SO little for WHAT I "GOT"! - [don't worry, IT passed...]

MOTHER got a Hardcover Baking Book, whilst I Selected THESE Fabulous-FOUNTS-of-ARTSY-KNOWLEDGE!

...AND, This CAST-IRON BASE-STAND Thingy...

I've yet to take a really CLOSE-LOOK at IT. However, I suspect that the "CENTER"-Hole-Space has been Modified..?

About 16-Inches across
-- 18-Inches from Tip-to-Tip.

And, at about a PENNY-per-POUND, I *wasn't* going to LEAVE IT!!

We were NOW, "SALE-SPOILED"! -- We moved on to the BEACON HILL MALL...

huh. The SALLY-ANN is going through a "RENO"... *STUFF* has been Temporarily
"Rearranged". - Although, that didn't Prevent MOTHER from FINDING a Set of 3.25mm [24"] CIRCULAR-NEEDLES at 89-Cents for Me!

NEXT, We had GROCERIES to GET at a Couple of Places, including THE MALL...

HOWEVER, I *also* needed to go to TRAINYARDS. -- Since the Afternoon was getting on, and the COOLERS were FULL, I dropped Their Contents - along with MOTHER - at the HOUSE before Continuing with MY "Shopping"...

oh, hey, remember Those METAL SAILBOAT HOOKS that I got on TUESDAY - [SEE 14AUG2012 POST] - at MICHAEL'S?

Well, "officially", They were *no longer* ON-SALE. BUT, the SIGNS
were STILL up, so I *got* the SALE-PRICE!

ONLY Bought FIVE more to add to the Other TWO, so that I would have "SEVEN"-BOATS for the SEVEN-"SEAS"!

Meanwhile, I *was* going to USE My ONE *COUPON* to Buy a BALL of YARN - BUT, *couldn't* since the YARN was "ON SALE" THIS Week!! -- nuts!

Mind You, I was PLANNING on making an Excursion to IKEA "some" TIME this COMING Week
-- There's a MICHAEL'S Next Door - [at least, there used to be..?] - I *might* actually be NEEDING That COUPON..?

Afterward, I went over to WALMART for a certain Needed Fav FOOD Item that was ON SALE...

ggrrrrr!! -- There ISN'T *any* of MY Flavour!! -- [WALnuts!!] -- I got a RAIN-CHEQUE.

oh-kay... I still have a LETTER to MAIL - *perhaps*, if I drop IT off at the MAIN POST OFFICE that is *just* down the Road, IT'll get INTO "The SYSTEM" Quicker..?? - [haha!]

The "Service"-OFFICE is Closed. I *figured* THAT, as IT was AFTER 5:00PM. However, there are FOUR MAIL-BOXES just Outside. *Surely*, THOSE SHOULD be "Checked" on MONDAY **MORNING**..?? Right??!!

[INSERT The Sound of THE UNIVERSE "Snorting"!!]

The "LABELS" on the BOXES read MONDAY'S "PICK-UP" is at 5:00PM??!! -- FOR REAL?!!?

[...AARRRGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!.....]

Alrighty... TIME to head HOME!! -- I'll just Drop the LETTER into One of the Neighbourhood
"DELIVERY"-MAIL-BOXES. *Where* IT'll get picked-up at **8:00AM** on MONDAY!!

ANYHOO... I think maybe THE UNIVERSE took "PITY" on Me Tonight -- as I *WON* $7. on the LOTTERY! -- Then again, IT is *also* My LATE-MATERNAL-GRANDFATHER'S 110th BIRTHDAY! And, HE always did *enjoy* Buying "Reference"-type BOOKS...

**THANKS**, PEPE!!

Tuesday, August 14, 2012

Oooo!! "MONEY"! ..And, a *BUNNY*..?!

**SWEET**!! -- BONUS!!

WEATHER-wise, the Day was Starting-off "o-kay"... TEMPS in the Mid-20C. A mix of SUN and CLOUD. A Touch of HUMIDITY. "CONDITIONS" were holding Steady for an Afternoon of SHOP-FARI-ing!

Ah! "Timing"! -- That-[albeit *small*]-Cheque that I was Expecting, Arrived just *BEFORE*
We Left the HOUSE. And, although I really didn't NEED to Deposit IT just yet, MOTHER wanted to go to THE BIG MALL to pick-up a particular GREETING-CARD anyway... So, as She did THAT, I took care of Monetary-Matters...

ONCE ALL of THAT was seen to, We set out on to Our PRIMARY-SHOP-MISSION --

MICHAEL'S "SENIORS' 10%-DISCOUNT" TUESDAY!

Ohh..!! - A various Bunch of the Those "SHOPPING-CART-STUFFERS-NOVELTY-ITEMS" are 30-40%-OFF...

Before "TAXES", the METAL SAILBOAT HOOKS came to 90-Cents-Each. - I only got 2. And, despite MOTHER's "objections", IF I get back There again, and *IF* THEY're still around at That-Price, I'm going to get MORE! -- I *LIKE* THEM!!

The BLUE & WHITE STRIPED CERAMIC COASTERS were down to $1.62 per PACK-of-TWO - [after Discounts] - Picked up FOUR! -- And, of course, THE "40%-OFF-COUPON" YARN!

Our NEXT "MISSION" -

VALUE-VILLAGE "SENIORS' 20%-DISCOUNT" TUESDAY!!

We headed for the "BACK-WALL", where the
"NOTIONS" are...

I Found These Little LOOP-KNITTING-NEEDLES and the Packs of DOUBLE-POINTS!

After "Discounts", the Pre-Tax Price was 79-Cents-Each!

Nearby, were These SPOOLS of PLASTIC LACE... I remember Weaving THIS STUFF when I was a KID! -- At $1.60-Per, I wasn't going to "pass" THEM up.

BTW, the "BLUE"-ONE is *actually* a Dark "PURPLE"!!

Meanwhile, MOTHER found a few Yards of some rather Lovely Striped COTTON-SATEEN Fabric!

-- IT should be great for Making some "HOLIDAY" ITEMS...

While in the
"HOUSE-WARES" Section... I came across This 10-Inch CERAMIC BOWL and, was Literally *DRAWN* to IT!

- The eventual $1.60 Price didn't *hurt*, either!

Anyway, I'm not sure "WHY"..?

IT has absolutely NO MARKINGS. However, ITS
"Simplicity" seemed to have struck an
"Aesthetic"
-Chord with Me...

Perhap, it was the Clean-Resonance of ITS "TING"..?
-- Sounds like a
"PORCELAIN"?

Then again, IT might have been the "Musical"-Version of the SUBLIMINAL-"BUY ME! BUY ME!"-CHANT...

I'm *such* a "PUSH-OVER" for POTTERY!! -- I BLAME My Paternal-DERBY-STAFFORDSHIRE-"GENES" on *That* ONE!!

ANYHOO... We ended up spending way TOO much Time Looking at Clothing that We Didn't-Need-Or-Want-To-Buy...

Of course, IF We *hadn't*, then We would've *probably* MISSED-OUT on *FINDING* the SHINY-QUARTER in the EMPTY-PARKING-SPACE-NEXT-TO-OUR-CAR that THE-PARKING-LOT-*FAIRY* had obviously "LEFT" for Us!!

Again, "Timing"!

Soooo....

AS I was Approaching Our Laneway, THIS GUY "caught" My Eye!! -- IT's a "Wonder" as to HOW I managed to *SPOT* HIM in the rather HIGH SUDDEN-NEW-GROWTH-WEEDS of Our Lawn.

HE was only a Few-Feet from the *Busy* Road!

And, even at 30-Feet away, just *KNEW*
that We were
Trying to Take PICs!

HE later
munched over to the NEIGHBOURS' Garden...

Actually, I think HE might be Living under the Bush over There.
